Youth Soccer

YMCA youth soccer promises no try outs, no getting cut and no bench warmers! While basic skills of the game are developed through practices and games, every child learns sportsmanship and values necessary to be successful in life.

What is FC Tred Avon?
FC Tred Avon is a new, year-round youth soccer program that will be operated by the YMCA of the Chesapeake’s volunteers and staff. It will include competitive and instructional soccer programs during the fall and spring, as well as indoor soccer during the winter months and instructional camps this summer.

The goal of this exciting new initiative is to provide the children and families of the Mid-Shore with all of the elements of an enjoyable, quality soccer experience – from attractive uniforms and evenly-matched teams to organized game-day operations and well-trained coaches and referees.

When will all of this get underway?
Registrations for our Fall 2017 divisions – (ages 2-3) U4, (ages 4-5) U6,(ages 6-7) U8, (ages 8-9) U10, (ages 10-11) U12, and (ages 12-13) U14 – will begin on August 28, 2017.

Child's age will be determined by age on August 31, 2017.

When will the Winter Indoor season get underway and how long will it last?
Practices and games will be held on Saturdays, beginning January 6th and ending February 16th. U4, U6, and U8 leagues will plat at Easton High School. U10, U12 and U14 will play at Saints Peter and Paul.

How much will the Fall soccer league cost to play?
With a cost of just $60 for YMCA members and $85 for program participants, it is our goal to offer an elite experience at the affordable prices that our friends have come to expect from the YMCA. The YMCA will never turn a family away for financial reasons, and financial assistance opportunities are available. It is very important to us that the FC Tred Avon program reflect the rich ethnic and cultural diversity of our region.

Where will games and practices be held?
Games and practices will be scheduled at soccer fields throughout Easton and Talbot County. Children throughout the Mid-Shore counties served by the YMCA of the Chesapeake will be eligible to participate, and we hope to eventually attract enough interest to schedule practices and games in other counties throughout the region.

How will FC Tred Avon offer evenly-matched teams and competitive games?
There are few things more detrimental to the youth soccer experience than imbalanced teams and games with lopsided scores. Mindful of that, the FC Tred Avon team will host mandatory assessments for new players which allows staff to evaluate our players by their stage of development and assemble teams accordingly.
Assessment Dates & Times:
8/14: 5-6pm U8; 6-7pm U10
8/15: 5-6pm U12; 6-7pm U14
8/16: 5-6pm U8; 6-7pm U10
8/17: 5-6pm U12; 6-7pm U14
9am U8
10am U10

12noon U14

Will these be co-ed or gender-specific teams?
Our U4 and U6 divisions will feature co-ed teams, while our U8, U10 and U12 teams will be gender specific.

What equipment and apparel will be provided by the league?
We will provide all of the necessary field equipment, as well as jerseys and socks. Families will provide black shorts and shin guards as well as all necessary drinks and snacks.

Together We Can Do More:

We're seeking volunteers interested in coaching youth sports. Our coaches make YMCA youth sports possible, and create a lifelong impact on children by encouraging participation and emphasizing sportsmanship and strong character. When you become a volunteer, the Y will introduce you to coaching and provide resources specific to the sport you coach. For more information, contact your nearest Y by phone or stop by the Welcome Center.

About YMCA Youth Sports

YMCA Youth Sports programs promote healthy kids, families and communities by placing a priority on family involvement, healthy competition, the value of participation over winning and team building. Parents are encouraged to be more than mere spectators by contributing their time as volunteer coaches and team parents as well as being their kid’s number one fan.
